Intel Core i9 vs AMD Ryzen ThreadRipper: Which one should you choose?

The Moore’s law is revived. Period.

Intel has proved this by producing a beast processor named Core i9. And following suit AMD produced a processor having similar power named Ryzen Threadripper.

Of course, both these processors are not for your average desktop PC, instead they target users that are involved in highly intensive tasks such as engineering 3D drawings on a large scale, building apps that are using business intelligence or let’s say data analytics in real time and similar other applications.

Which one should you choose? Intel Core i9 or AMD Ryzen Threadripper?

Timmy Joe, Youtuber, has said it rightly that you don’t actually need any of these processors at this time. But there will be a time when both these processors will become a necessity.

Because your regular 4-core and 8-thread processor can take care of most of the things. Even if you require all apps to stay alive, lets say, run photoshop, priemere pro, zbrush and Battlefield 4 all at the same time you can still go about with a Core i7 4-core or a Ryzen 7 8-core processor. What you will need to keep these running and not to stuck the PC is additonal RAM (at least 16GB).

Intel vs AMD: So, who needs these processors?

Enterprises, factories and development houses involved in manufacturing, analysis and development need these high-powered computer processors to improve their workflow.

For example, a car company that needs to test a car’s machine learning system by running it through multiple use cases will drastically improve the process if it gets these high-performance Core i9 and Ryzen Threadripper processors. This is because the analysis requires lots of computational power and that’s where the processors help.

Also, a few years from now, we will be having autonomous vehicles, Internet of Things (IoT) products and virtual reality applications that will require high amount of processing power, these processors will be a regular component in those systems and will then become a necessity rather than a luxury.

The Price of Intel Core i9 & AMD Ryzen Thread Ripper

Intel Core i9 processor is  a lot costlier than AMD Ryzen Threadripper. The price of Intel Core i9 chip is $1,999 while that of AMD Ryzen Threadripper is $850.

Core i9 has two more chips than Threadripper while Threadripper has more PCIe lanes. Both processors are unique in their operations.

Motherboard and Socket for Intel Core i9 & AMD Ryzen Threadripper

Intel Core i9 requires a motherboard with socket size LGA 2066 (Socket R4). The socket replaces older LGA 2011 socket and will debut new intel processors including Skylake X and Kabylake X.

Ryzen Threadripper uses AMD TR4 CPU socket, which is the most gigantic processor socket made so far. It works on motherboards based on X-399 chipset.
